General Tips for Making Phone Calls within the Philippines

As in many other countries, for domestic non-local calls in the Philippines always dial 0 before the area code. For local calls just dial the subscriber number.

Mobile phone calls within the Philippines

All cellular phone numbers in the Philippines have 10 digits, including a 3-digit cellular provider code and a 7-digit subscriber number.

The cellular phone prefixes depend upon the provider:

Extelcom: 973
Globe Telecom: 906, 915, 916, 917, 926, 926
Next Mobile (Nextel): 979
Smart Communications: 910, 912, 918, 919, 920, 921, 928, 929
Sun Cellular: 922

If you wanted to call a Filipino cell phone from within the Philippines, dial 0, followed by the cellular prefix, and the cellular number. e.g. To call a Sun Cellular number, dial 0922-xxx-xxxx.

Receiving calls from abroad

Remember to dial the international access code (011 in the U.S.) followed by the country code of 63, area code, and subscriber number for international calls to the Philippines. e.g. For a call to Jimenez, dial 011-63-88-xxx-xxx. For international calls to Filipino cell phones, just replace the area code with the cell phone provider prefix. e.g. For a call to a Next Mobile number, dial 011-63-979-xxx-xxxx.

Other calls and numbers

For local land line calls, simply dial the local subscriber number (5-7 digits).

In the Philippines, toll-free numbers begin with the 1800 prefix. The prefix is followed by either 1,2, or 4 digits, and then followed by either a 4 or 7-digit number.

  • 1800-x-xxx-xxxx
  • 1800-xx-xxx-xxxx
  • 1800-xxxx-xxxx

Note that 1-800 numbers from the U.S. are not necessarily toll-free in the Philippines.

Some toll-free numbers are reserved by the Filipino government for public services.

Tips for Calling Internationally from the Philippines

Avoid making calls from your hotel rooms. Prices are usually very high. Phone cards are a much better bargain.

Internet cafes are plentiful, particularly in urban areas. You may even find Internet in remote locations, but the connection may be painfully slow.
