Calling India Long Distance

India is 5 1/2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 10 1/2 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time in the United States. However, during Daylight Saving Time in the U.S., India is only 9 1/2 hours ahead of the eastern U.S. Unlike the U.S. and many European countries, India does not participate in Daylight Saving Time.
India’s country calling code is 91. This should be followed by the area code, which will be between 2-4 digits long. The total of digits in the area code plus the local number is always equal to 10. e.g. In the city of Agra, the area code, 562, will be followed by a 7 digit local number: 562-xxx-xxxx. In Bangalore, the area code, 80, will be followed by an 8 digit local number: 80-xxxx-xxxx.
